Observation: I started drawing the male Pygmy Goose shortly after his three babies started fledging (A male and two females). I took a picture of him as he sat nearby with his family, but the flash from my camera messed up his colorations, so I took a second picture without the flash which revealed the colors I was looking for. This drawing is a combination of those two photos. The overall shape came from the first photo while most of the coloration and shading came from the second photo. Though the back and wing area took the shading from the first photo. On first look, most people mistake this cute little goose for a duck. Even after they are told that it is a goose they still compare it to a Mallard by thinking that the Pygmy Goose quacks. In truth, a Pygmy Goose squeaks. I learned how to mimic one of their calls, so at times I enjoy watching and listening as the male Pygmy Goose reacts to my mimicked call.
